Gulf Islands, FL

After stopping by Reddick, FL to visit with Joe and Margo, the previous owners of our Bluebird, we made our way to the Gulf Islands, specifically Fort Pickens Campground on Santa Rosa Island. The island sits just off the coast of Pensacola, FL. This section of coast is a National Seashore, and Fort Pickens is…

Little Manatee River State Park

I wish we had more time to stay at this sweet little park! It is situated on the river although it is a half mile hike or drive from the campground. There are miles of hiking and equestrian trails in the park and you can rent canoes and kayaks to paddle down the river.

Ortuna Locks, FL

We arrived at Ortuna Locks Corps of Engineers Campground on Thursday. It is a small park, but as clean and well kept as I’ve seen. It sits on the Caloosahatchee canal near La Belle, FL. I stayed behind and puttered around the coach. Shahin called and said they fixed the clutch, but had discovered that the wheel bearings were shot….

Disappointment at Cape Disappointment

The drive to Cape Disappointment was just a short one over an incredible bridge across the Columbia River into Washington state. We wondered at the name of the park that was our destination, but when we arrived, we were happy to find an available site right next to a lake. However, when unhitching the car,…

Fort Stevens

We had gotten a call from our friends Lucas and Linda that Fort Stevens had some vacant sites, so Shahin immediately got online and reserved three nights there. The drive from Portland was gorgeous, through high rain forest, lush and green. We pulled in late in the afternoon and immediately fired up the grill for…
